The Houston Astros are bringing Amazon's cashier-free technology to a Major League Baseball stadium

Visitors to Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros, now have access to a new benefit. At the stadium, Amazon's Just Walk Out payment system was launched, allowing spectators to check out without having to deal with a cashier. The 2022 season of Major League Baseball began on April 7, and this shopping function might make it easy to grab a snack and get to the stands.

According to an MLB news release, the Just Walk Out technology is available at two locations at Minute Maid Park: the 19th Hole store on the Concourse level behind Section 156 and the 'Market' store on the Honda Club Level behind Section 211. Using a credit card and a virtual cart, visitors may purchase souvenirs, food, and drinks, even alcohol.

What is the mechanism behind it? At the admission gate, customers must input their credit cards. Anything they take once inside the store is instantly added to their cart, and if they place it back on the shelf, it is automatically deleted. Their card will be charged for all of the products in their virtual cart once they've completed shopping. When buying alcohol, customers must present their ID to a store clerk.
