The Experimental 'Peek' Feature in Windows 11 Is Straight From MacOS

According to reports, Microsoft is testing a new Windows 11 feature that macOS users would recognize. It's called Peek, and it's essentially a Windows version of Quick Look.

By tapping the space bar while the file is chosen, macOS users may preview files like images, movies, and documents. This function might come in handy whether you're seeking a certain image or just want to take a quick look at a spreadsheet.

Peek is coming to PowerToys, an open-source initiative through which Microsoft may release experimental features aimed at power users, according to Windows Latest, so that Windows 11 and Windows 10 users can try out Quick Look for themselves.

"This feature was reportedly built during a Microsoft hack week and was intended to be an internal prototype/experiment," according to Windows Latest. "The firm appreciated the notion of a lightning-fast file preview capability and included it in Microsoft PowerToys internal releases."

When a Windows user picks an image and presses their preferred keyboard shortcut, Peek is said to utilize the built-in Photos program to generate the image. (Shift + space bar is the default combination.) The preview is dismissed by hitting the Enter key or using the keyboard shortcut again.
